Part 4 of our free 4-webinar series for dog trainers
There’s no magic wand that will fix your schedule, fill your calendar, or get you to 6 figures. You already know that when it comes to dog training — but when it comes to business, it’s easy to get distracted by shiny tools, new certifications, or “one easy trick” tactics.
In this final webinar of our four-part series, we talked about what it actually takes to build a strong, successful business — and why shortcuts don’t work. We also shared the same 5-pillar framework we’ve used in our own businesses and inside Trainer’s Growth Group to help dog trainers reach real, sustainable success.

Recording Notes & Summary
Why “just one more course or tool” won’t fix your business
Trainers often think: “If I just had a better website… if I just signed up for that platform… if I just took that seminar…”
But in reality, the problem usually isn’t lack of education or tools — it’s lack of strategy.
Like with training, business success comes from consistent habits and thoughtful planning. This webinar focused on the foundational pieces you need to get right — so you can stop spinning your wheels and start moving forward.
The 5 Pillars of Business Success
1. Business Mindset
It’s time to stop thinking of yourself as “just” a dog trainer and start thinking like a business owner.
- Set office hours and protect your time
- Batch your admin work and streamline your systems
- Use templates and automations to save time
- Build a business that works for you — not the other way around
Action step: Take one email you write often and turn it into a reusable template.
2. Programs & Pricing
- Offer complete programs, not one-off lessons
- Provide a clear journey with a “next step” after each service
- Price based on your goals and your market — not what other trainers are charging
Action step: Write out the path clients take through your programs. Is it clear? What happens after their first package?
3. Marketing
- Think about your funnel: how people find you, how they connect, how they buy
- Track what’s working and let go of what isn’t
- Don’t wait until your calendar is empty to start marketing
Action step: Pick one strategy to test this month, and decide how you’ll measure its success.
4. Sales
- Recommend your best-fit service confidently
- Don’t assume clients won’t pay — give them the opportunity to say yes
- Use a consistent intake process from first contact through payment
Action step: Write out a script for your sales calls and practice it. You don’t need to memorize every word — but confidence makes a big difference.
5. Know Your Numbers
- Know your monthly expenses and revenue goals
- Track what services sell best — and whether they’re profitable
- Budget for time off, taxes, and growth
Action step: Look at your last 3 months of revenue. Are your best-selling services also your most profitable?
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, there’s no single fix, no magic button, no secret marketing strategy that will change everything overnight. But if you focus on the fundamentals — and stay consistent — you can build a business that works for you, instead of one that wears you out.
